Dave
Well finally I’ve learnt to speak English so now the world will be bless’d by info on me by me. As you can see I’m the very fortunate member of Interstella to play drums mainly ‘coz the other guys aren’t as shit-hot as me(maybe Simon could program a drum beat better than John or Nick could beat-box) but anyway this role in the revolution is very welcomed musically since the guys are natural guitarists with wonderful soulful feeling. Mmm….stream of consciousness (as enjoyed by Green Apple Cat constantly over the years)…My very supportive family tell me Interstella is the best boy-band I’ve been in….I guess they haven’t seen our dance moves yet. Ok here comes the admiration for guys I’m a fan of and lucky enough to be in a band with-I could play a toothbrush(not big noting-keep reading) and the songs could still sound brilliant. I remember way back when- I HATED saxophone then migrated south with Gresh and our little circus family joyfully welcomed a Sax player-nothing wildly jazzy went on but there are different feelings conveyed by various instruments and I became a fan of the ol’ golden blower since I constantly pictured a Goddess and felt like a member of that psychedelic harem in the sky called classic seventies rock-now I’m digging Nick’s style and yes-I’m mentioning Pink Floyd here. You’ll just have to come along to a show to see for yo’self. Now for gig reviews from my alter-ego harsh but fair critic Roger Hardly. Our first gig at a well attended birthday party for me had colours and shiny angel smiles like heaven was cruising by like a grand space-ship and our minds delighted in an awareness of joy and abundant oneness celebrated wildly and a little lasciviousness-you get the picture-I REALLY dug it and we’ve been constantly improving so you can imagine the super-duper transcendent state I’m appreciating being in Interstella. As I waffle on Nick’s writing another catchy little number and we’re drinking my main man Mohammad Glen’s fantastic home brew. I tell ya-quit yer job and join a band-it’s well wicked. Umm..for our next gig at Uni-the scene of perhaps over 100 gigs for me in various bands I was fully into the vibe or the flowing intelligent conversations or nerves about a sophisticated crowd or the cheap beer-probably all of the above. Being into the scene for me is pure unadelterated inspiration-I could dive off a cliff like an Acapulco diver graceful as a bird or jump out of a plane without messiness, perhaps even talk confidently to an electric lady. So this opportunity is mine to thank all people everywhere for that decadent gift. Anyway back to it..the gig went well as expected ( we’re quite talented really) We also played inside at Uni due to rain but as you can see from my photo it may as well have been raining inside too. It’s a sweaty stink-fest behind a drum kit sometimes. The rain in Townsville comes quite rarely but I think the wet season this year was a little extended so when the stage-hands at our biggest gig yet for a massive fundraiser called Relay for Life were putting towels over the electricals and the wind was blowing in sideways for a little while there it was kind of an unwelcome sniffly night for us and people off stage too, but being part of this North Queensland community has been good to me in so many ways I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of giving back. Well I’m hungry again-happened yesterday too-so I’ll add more soon(I always think of good stuff after the fact) Much love and stay free! GUESS WHAT- I realised I forgot to mention the success of our Xchange shows. The acoustics are phenomenally bad but people had plenty of positive things to say about it. I had Simon’s booming bass amp in my good ear and a good view of the friends I’d invited so over-awed they couldn’t get up to dance THIS MEANS YOU-DANI!! Just kidding-you’re groovy even when you’re just hanging around! Okay that’s that-smell you later.x
